Ideating: reflecting on my work

Week 3: the beginning

The first two weeks of this module took me to some interesting creative places. While brainstorming I was able to send time considering:

  1. My hobbies, interest and skills,
  2. how they could be considered useful to someone
  3. What trajectory would I like to take them on if given the opportunity

While in this brainstorming process I considered a number of projects:

In the end however, I landed on creating a coffee centric DA as it had the most importance to me in the long run. My goal is to own a cafe eventually and using this project to explore some of the creative aspects of marketing, content creation and developing a social media presence and personality seemed very invaluable to me.

While settling on my concept it was also important to consider the best way to display my content and media presence. Your choice of platform depends heavily upon the subject material as certain audiences and content styles can be found on different platforms.

Week 4: the understanding

It was important to me when settling on a social media platform to not only research the audience but coffee itself, to determine its growth and interest overtime. Coffee itself dates back to the 15th century, but one of the biggest trends surround the drink in the last two years was dalgona coffee, or the ‘tiktok’ whipped coffee.

One of the other highest growing trends surrounding coffee being ‘Chamberlain coffee’, influencer and entrepreneur Emma Chamberlain’s coffee company.

This research helped me to realise the growing popularity of coffee in the online community and aided me in focusing on TikTok as the primary platform for my project. Not only does the coffee hashtag on TikTok have over 18 billion views, the platform itself is allows for easy recording and video editing making it the ideal #FIST platform.

This is where I begun observing the online coffee community and its audience.

From my observations I begun working on the style of content I would like to create and share on my TikTok to meet the needs and demands of the community.

from this I landed on educational videos as they would facilitate the highest social utility:

  1. Audience education
  2. Growing the online community
  3. Entertaining the community
  4. Building a portfolio of my skills

week 5: the assembly

Once I felt that the mechanics and content of the project where considered it became time to define the parameters of the project. this is when I finalised my project statement to reflect the starting point of my fully defined project.

Week 5 was a big week for the project, I accumulated the audience observations I had made and my project statement and started considering the target audience for my project. This week was when the observing and thinking components connected to define the project as a whole.

I created a starter pack to simplify the audience I wish to attract to my project.

Week 6:

this week the project stopped being something I only thought about and became something tangible. I begun posting content on TikTok. I was now turning my project statement into testable content prototypes and considering the feedback I was receiving for my next prototype.

This is when I had my biggest breakthrough so far. I noticed that my more ‘relatable’ and ‘comedic’ videos have been resonating with my audience more and receiving a considerably higher amount of views, likes, comments and overall interactions. I was finally experiencing the feedback loop in progress.

  1. I tested an idea it failed #FEFO
  2. I observed the audience response (no feedback is feedback in and of itself)
  3. I have ideated a new content style for my DA (and the feedback has been positive)

week 6: the now

I am excited to see where my project takes me and what the next big breakthrough has in store. you can follow along on my projects journey at https://www.tiktok.com/@pebblesbrews?
